Playing Cards & Spinning Yarns
After putting the excitement of the forest fire behind us, we settled-down for a few hours of cruising - destination: Saltspring Island. During this time we played cards and shot the breeze.
Discussion soon returned to the subject of vintage aircraft. It appears that the bottom of Seattle's Lake Washington is quite the aviation museum. The fresh water and muddy depths do a great job of preserving the planes stuck there, while it proximity to Boeing and other lakeside landing strips has ensured a steady steam of sinkings over the decades.
A Yarn
Years back, an independent salvage operation yielded
a World War II fighter - a Corsair. Upon its retrieval, the U.S. Navy
decided that it still belonged to them, and although they lost the
ensueing legal battle, the result was that the armed forces has
apparently laid claim to all their other mistakes still in the drink
there.
